If Moeen, Cook and Root had been anywhere near some form we could have been more in it. Broad was no surprise really and I think the Aussies will go to town on him in the next test, which he shouldn't really be playing in. With the ludicrous banning of Stokes as well, which didn't help.

8/15 Australia for next test, think that's quite generous.

Huge respect for Billings and his agent getting him these T20 gigs, as it's a format he's not very good at basically!

Fuck it, but bash starts today which I thoroughly enjoy watching at work, so bollocks to the gash England served up.

Now that England have been roundly condemned for their weak bowling attack, perhaps I'll just comment that I told you so.

It was less predictable that Cook and Root would have such poor series while Stoneman, Vince and Malan have all over performed.

Absolute RAPING.... we should contact the Police and get a line up of the Aussie quicks and get Root and co pick out which ones did not use any lube....

Not seen todays dismissals ... but was Moeen out backing away ... again??

Bunch of cunts

Hate to say I said so. But as I posted before Cook and Root didn't match Smith for runs. We had peashooters v rockets. The cracks were there in the summer and our results flatered us.

Still pathetic. Root = Atherton. Deja Vu all over again. Very little promise coming through. It's the wilderness years for English Cricket I'm afraid.

Re: Australia V England - 3rd Test PERTH
There is more home advantage and not sure whether that’s due to there not being a dominant side (Windies 80’s Aust 90’s) , shorter tours with inadequate preparation or what.
No current side would be happy with their current away form.

Funnily enough SA have won their last two visits in Australia but they are still to win a HOME series v Australia since they came back in in the early 1990’s.

There is still an element of you need to be playing for the right county to get considered for England. They need to look at both divisions to pick the best side to take to places like Australia as its now looking like a whitewash.

Well played the Australians.

Shame it hasn't been remotely competitive.

Yes, Surrey are not a likeable club at all. They certainly do very little to connect with their community.

However, I do think it's a problem for English cricket as a whole. I wouldn't mind betting that if you look at the educational
backgrounds of England players over th last 10-20 years, a disproportionate number of them are from public schools or grammar schools.

I have nothing against public school or grammar school boys - and I am certainly not advocating any form of positive discrimination - but it frustrates me that there is all this untapped talent out there. In the inner cities in particular there will be millions of athletic, sports mad kids who will go through life never having held a cricket bat or ball or never having the opportunity to even watch cricket on the television. Unlike when I was a kid, it's now very much a minority sport unfortunately, and I find that depressing.

Re: Australia V England - 3rd Test PERTH
you can add Stoneman to that too, Sven son. In fact the fringe players have done ok overall, its really 3 of the senior 4 - Cook, Root and Broad; that have been off the pace. Tempted to add Jimmy as I wouldn't say he's been at his best, but 12 wickets at 25 is still a very decent return, and the LOLstralians appear to have identified him as our only threat and pretty much just block him out of the attack because they know what's coming behind is so weak, and then score off him later.

Still, as I said the other day - there's a lot of talk at the moment about dwindling audiences for Test cricket. Lots of talking about adding CONTEXT. For me the single biggest issue is home advantage. Australia haven't won in England since 2001, and this lot wouldn't beat this England side in England either. India routinely beat everyone at home then come over here and get spanked. Yu get the odd anomaly like England winning in SA a couple of years ago, and SA winning in Aus; but generally speaking between the 4 or 5 top sides, whoever is at home wins. Its getting worse, and they need to do something about it.

We produce plenty of homegrown players yes, but what sort of character do they have ?

The only "winners" we have introduced of late have been players with overseas backgrounds, KP... Stokes.... Joe Root being the glaring exception.

Cook has gone ( mentally ), Broad persists with trying to bowl an English style in Aussie conditions, Anderson is on the wane.

I think we are going to be in the doldrums for a long time

Re: Australia V England - 3rd Test PERTH
By my recollection England have done well at home recently and won in S Africa. Got smashed in India but most teams have and they won there the time before.
Have been in all three matches but before the series you would have said Cook and Root were their trump cards and needed to lead the batting. Neither has turned up
Stokes idiocy is obviously a big factor as is the non appearance of Moeen.
You’d say only Malan and Vince have shown the necessary fight against difficult bowling.

2 fairly mediocre sides and hopefully Australia can now build on what they have shown here with the likes of Renshaw & Head

To be fair, that's because Surrey are the Chelsea of county cricket, They just go out and spend fortunes on overseas players, and try to nick everyone else's best young players. Hideous club. Essex still produce plenty of homegrown talent from a variety of backgrounds. In fairness, Kent do as well, although obviously not to the same standard as the champions.

Mirkwood.

Confirm that tragic state of affairs.

The games teachers at my (comprehensive) school seemed to have given up on cricket as a whole. The bloke running the school team was in his late 60s could hardly walk (hernia, I suppose) and was clearly doing us a favour. No effort was spared to discourage any keen lad from improving...

I don't know how it works, but having taught in a school less than a mile away from The Oval, I can tell you that Surrey CCC have no interest whatsoever in finding talent in the local area.

There were kids in the school who were closing in on 6 foot by 11 years old, ridiculously athletic and they had never held a cricket bat or ball in their lives.

There's probably enough raw untapped talent in London alone to trounce the Aussies, but English cricket is so complacent - it's happy just fumbling along with its intake of public school and grammar school boys.

Pathetic.

Not sure how it works nowadays...

When I was a lad...........

I played for school team and decent level cricket club in Kent. (Bowler).

Not sure about myself but there were a few outstanding lads in the teams.

Trouble was, we were all from council/ poor families.
If you wanted to go further. You had to pay and go to the Kent coaching.

My old man was working at Sharps sweet factory at the time. You might as well have asked him for 100 grand for a Ferrari. Same as all the other lads.

All the toffs kids went of course. Some eventually ended up playing for the County. None of the poor kids ever got anywhere.

Footnote.

The guy I'm thinking of mainly was an outstanding fast bowler. To this day, he is terrorising the village cricket teams so just shows you.

I'm with Sydney on this, England have been an accident waiting to happen for the last couple of years. The culture is poor and there is no fight... (remind of a another team we all know?)

Before we start chopping players the management needs to be changed, then lets see what these under achievers (currently) can do
